Vision and Mission Statement
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
La Salle Academy seeks to provide a Catholic Education environment which is Christ Centred, which aims for academic excellence and which promotes justice for all.
OUR VISION
La Salle Academy is part of the Diocese of Bathurst, in the Parish of St Patrick’s, Lithgow. Our school is on the eastern edge of Wiradjuri country, with staff and students honouring this heritage in our community. As a co-educational Catholic school, we honour the Lasallian charism, with vibrant and continuing links with the De La Salle Brothers and their associates. It should also be noted that at various points in the school’s history the support and assistance of The Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart has been crucial, and as such the school also has an additional association with them. Both of our feeder schools, St. Joseph’s, Portland and St Patrick’s, Lithgow have a rich history with the Josephite Charism.
La Salle Academy strives to be an agent of evangelisation of the Church in the world, as such we provide spiritual formation for families, students and staff in the Catholic tradition. We are called to be active representatives of Christ’s love in the world. In our faith and mission, we are a community that strives to fulfil St. Paul’s exhortation to the Ephesians, a call to be people ‘grounded and established in love, who have power, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.’ Eph 3:17-20
Opportunities in daily school life allow all members to contribute their gifts to the richly Catholic curriculum of our school. Students and staff join together in morning chapel prayer groups, celebrate Friday Masses with the Parish as class groups and in receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation at school. Our school Masses honour the liturgical cycle of the Church and significant school events are centred around the celebration of Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith. We have a vibrant music ministry with instrumentalists and vocalists who share their talents and many students are involved in liturgical ministry as well.
Our community works for social justice to show love for the least and the lost, just as Jesus instructed. Our ongoing efforts with our Parish, The Lasallian Foundation, Bob’s Place, Project Compassion, Caritas Australia, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Lithgow Crisis Accommodation Service and local Aged Care providers are examples of how we help those in need of solidarity, compassion, charity, support and love. Our students and staff all look forward to annual retreat days and in 2017 we implemented the Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Australia (CSYMA) program for Year 9 students who have chosen to be involved in various peer ministry initiatives. Our rich Catholic curriculum at La Salle Academy ensures that all in the community have abundant and rewarding opportunities as active agents of Christ’s discipleship in the world.
